GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced its 2016 postseason awards for baseball, the league office announced Monday, May 9. Junior center fielder
Travis Bolin (Watervliet, Mich.) led five recipients for the Panthers as he was tabbed the WHAC Player of the Year and a First Team All-WHAC outfielder. Bolin had a record-breaking season as he broke the Davenport single-season school records for home runs (16), triples (11), total bases (174), and hits (86). His offensive success has seen him post a WHAC-best .420 batting average and a .849 slugging percentage. He is also leading the conference in runs scored (65) and hits (86), while he is second in doubles (18) and RBI (58).
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and
Matt Priebe accompanied Bolin as First Team All-WHAC selections. Larkin-Guilfoyle (Streamwood, Ill.) was named a first team selection as a third baseman following his season in which he finished fourth in the conference in hits (63) while recording a .339 batting average. He recorded nine doubles and 28 runs scored on the season with a .432 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage. Priebe (Canton, Mich.) earned the nod as a First Team All-WHAC selection as a first baseman. He finished eighth in the conference in batting average (.362) and runs scored (40). He totaled 109 bases, good for third best in the WHAC, while he was also fourth in doubles (17) and fifth in home runs (7).
Sophomores
Brian Sobieski (St. Charles, Ill.) and
Corbin Clouse (Grand Ledge, Mich.) earned Honorable Mention All-WHAC honors for the Panthers. Sobieski totaled a .314 batting average with 44 hits, 15 doubles, and 36 RBI. He recorded 85 total bases on the season with a .556 slugging percentage. Clouse was named an Honorable Mention All-WHAC pitcher following his season in which he led the Panthers in ERA (0.95) and opposing batting average (.128). Clouse has compiled a 5-0 record on the season and allowed just four earned runs in 38 innings pitched. Clouse recorded 58 strikeouts on the season and tossed two complete games in six starts for the Panthers.
