Davenport Surrenders Back To Back Matches Against Florida Tech and Warner

Panthers lose 7-2 against Florida Tech and 5-4 against Warner

ORLANDO, Fla. – Davenport dropped two matches over the past couple days against Florida Tech and Warner. The Panthers are competing at the USTA National Complex in beautiful Orlando, Florida. The team lost to Florida Tech 7-2 and dropped a close match against nationally ranked Warner 5-4.
 
Match 1 (Sunday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m.)
Final score: Florida Tech-7 | Davenport-2
Location: Orlando, Fla.
Records: DU (2-6) | FT (3-2)
 
The men were swept in the doubles competitions against Florida Tech 3-0. The duo of Michael Digby and Haja Denise lost 9-7 while the combo of Matthew McClurg and Matthew Boyle lost 8-6.
 
Davenport was able to fight back with two wins during the single competitions. Sam Rogerson recorded the first point for DU on the day with a come from behind win. He fell in the first set 6-3, then won the next two sets 6-3 and 7-5. Boyle received the other point for DU with a three set victory. First set was 6-4 in Boyle's favor, then Wade Ball won the second set 6-4. The third and final set in a super tie break 10-7.
 
The team held a record of 2-5 after the loss to Florida Tech
 
Match 2 (Monday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m.)
Final score: #15 Warner-5 | Davenport-4
Location: Orlando, Fla.
Records: DU (2-7) | WU (3-2)
 
Davenport jumped out to an early 2-1 lead during the doubles competitions. Boyle and McClurg tallied the first point for DU with an impressive 8-3 win during the second doubles match. Rogerson and Juan-Philip Van Antwerpen took the last doubles match by a score of 8-6.
 
The Panthers held a 4-2 lead heading into the last three singles matches and were un-able to sustain the lead. Rogerson and Van Antwerpen helped build up the two-point lead during the singles competitions with their wins. Rogerson won 6-1 and 6-4, while Van Antwerpen won 7-6 and 6-3. Davenport lost two of the last three matches in three sets.
 
The team, after dropping both of these matches, holds a record of 2-7. Davenport will play four more matches down in Florida this week.
