This weekend Davenport men's lacrosse took on the Liberty University Flames, and the Virginia Tech Hokies in two top-25 matchups on the road in Virginia. Despite a strong effort in both matchups, the Panthers fell short of the mark in both contests.

How it Happened Starting off the trip, Davenport took on Liberty University at midnight for their annual Midnight Mayhem game. In the first quarter the Panthers went down 5-1 in the first 10 minutes of play. They were able to bounce back with five minutes left to go as the charge was led by junior attackman
Bryan Larocque and senior midfielder
Devon Benson. Both were able to find the back of the net to end the first quarter down 6-4. Heading into half, Davenport was able to notch four more goals make the score 11-8 at halftime in favor of Liberty. With a strong second half offensively and defensively, the Panthers were able to bring the score within two going into the last quarter. The team got great performances from senior netminder Danny Kransberger in cage with 13 saves and senior Midfielder
Zach Schneider with 11 faceoff wins and four ground balls. In the fourth quarter, Davenport was able to tie the game up at 14 with an assisted goal from junior midfielder
Joe Lopez to junior attackman
Jarred Riley. The Flames were able to control the next face-off and put another point up before the final minute of the game, where they notched one more on a broken play from the midfield.

How It Happened With the second road game under way the Panthers came out to a very strong first half on the offensive end as well as the defensive end. With the offense clicking sophomore midfielder
Paul Schalau and Larocque were part of four of the five goals leading into the half. Going into the second half strong the Panthers man down was able to go 100 percent on the day. Although a strong first half presence pushed DU into a good position to finish the game, a slow second half would keep the Hokies above the Panthers. Virginia Tech battled to a 15-9 win over your Panthers.
