HOW IT HAPPENED
Going into the CCLA tournament ranked fourth in the conference, the Panthers met conference rival Michigan State in the first round of play. With a slow start to the game, the Panthers defense held MSU's high powered offense to four goals in the first quarter. While scoreless in the first, Davenport found the back of the net three times in the second quarter leading into halftime. Junior midfielder Blain Adams capitalized on an errant pass from Michigan State's goalie to put DU on the board followed closely by unassisted goals from sophomore midfielder Paul Schalau and freshman defender Avery Buckius. Heading into the second half, Michigan State had momentum with a 6-3 lead. Battling back, the Panthers put up two early in the third, again on unassisted goals from Adams and Schalau to make the score 6-5 late in the third. Davenport would only be able to notch one more goal in this contest, making the final score 14-6 with the Spartans on top.
