OREM, Utah – While most students are relaxing on break this week, the men's lacrosse team is hard at work near the Rockies as they play a couple of games in the Beehive State. After two wins to start off the season, they took on the winless Wolverines of Utah Valley University.

Davenport vs. Utah Valley (Thursday, March 1)
Final Score: Davenport-10 I Utah Valley-9
Records: DU (3-0) I UVU (0-5)
Â
Despite the combatants' two vastly different records, the game between these two was a tight one.
Dylan Riley opened the scoring for the Panthers with his ninth goal of the season.
Jarred Riley then scored off a pass from
Jake Kovalcik to give the Panthers the two-goal lead in the second quarter. Chad Renslow and Kyle Allsop scored for Utah Valley to tie it up, before taking the lead on a goal from Tanner Marsh shortly thereafter. However, two goals from
Bryan Larocque before the end of the half gave Davenport the 4-3 lead heading into the break.
Jake Hodges and
Avery Buckius had assists on the goals respectively.
Â
The second half started similar to the first, as Davenport struck first.
Joe Lopez took the opening face-off, took it right into Wolverine territory, and potted his second goal of the year.
Blake McDonald scored later in the third quarter to extend the Panther lead to 6-3. The game started to really go back-and-forth, as Utah Valley cut the Panther lead to two.
Jarred Riley scored his second of the game, third of the season to make it 7-4. The Wolverines scored two more before the end of the quarter, only trailing the Panthers by one heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Â
The Wolverines came out strong in the fourth quarter with goals from Justin Haws and Zach Pierce put the Wolverines up, 8-7, less than five minutes into the final frame. Kovalcik then tied it up for DU with just over eight minutes remaining. Kovalcik would score again for the Panthers with one minute left in regulation, to give them the lead, 9-8. The Wolverines, however, would not quit. After a Davenport penalty, Brian Quick tied the game up at nine, with just 15 seconds remaining.
Â
After a crazy face-off win by the Panthers, they took a timeout with one second left, with possession in the Wolverine end. When the whistle blew,
Dylan Riley fired a long shot just before the buzzer sounded. It went through a calamity of bodies in front of the Utah Valley goal, and somehow crossed the line in time to give DU the victory 10-9.
