Larocque Sets Record as Panthers Win Regular Season Finale

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Davenport traveled towards Western Pennsylvania for their final game of the regular season. Their counterpart were the Panthers from the University of Pittsburgh, who were sitting one spot ahead of Davenport heading into Friday's contest. The winner of the game would be scheduled to play Minnesota in the first round of the CCLA tournament, whereas the loser would take on top-seeded Michigan State.

Davenport started strong in the first 15 minutes, as they were able to put four goals in Pitt's goal. Pitt would be able to sneak two by Jack Huffman. The Panthers continued their offensive onslaught in the second as they scored three more into Pittsburgh's net. Pitt would try and keep pace with two more goals, and Davenport led the battle of the Panthers 7-3 at the end of the first half.
 
The second half was all Davenport. Pitt managed to score one goal in the third quarter, but Davenport put four up on the scoreboard, and had a hefty lead heading in the final 15 minutes. Both teams traded goals in the fourth quarter, with DU getting an extra tally. Davenport took the victory in the season finale, 13-6.
 
Bryan Larocque led the team with seven goals, and set the MCLA all-time career points record. The previous record of 337 points was held by BYU's Ted Ferrin, who last played for the Cougars back in 2012. Larocque finishes his career with 341 points in his time with Davenport, with his best season coming back in the 2016 NAIA National Championship campaign, when he scored 119 points for the Panthers.

Davenport travels out to the East side of the state to Chelsea for the first round of the CCLA Tournament. Their opponents next Saturday will be the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Gophers won the matchup between the two in overtime back on March 31. This will be the first postseason meeting between the Gophers and Panthers. The game will be held at Chelsea Stadium at 4 p.m.
