GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport finished off their regular-season with a trio of matches against Grand Valley State, Ferris State, and Northwood. The Panthers lost all three of the matches and finish the season with an 11-10 overall record and 3-5 in the GLIAC. The GLIAC takes the top six teams to the conference tournament and the Panthers narrowly miss the cut. Davenport and Ashland finished the season with the same conference record, but the Eagles beat DU 4-3 in the regular season to take the sixth spot in the tournament.
Match 1 (Friday): Davenport-3 | Grand Valley State-4
Doubles Competition
Singles Competition
- McClurg and Bulmer were the two Panthers to win in singles.
- Davenport needed to split the singles matches three to three in order to win the match, but the Lakers got four and the overall victory.
- McClurg won 6-4, 2-6, and 6-2 in two singles.
- In four singles, Bulmer won 6-3 and 6-4.
Match 2 (Saturday): Davenport-0 | Ferris State-7
Doubles Competition
- Davenport lost the three doubles matches.
- The closest match was Johansen and van Antwerpen in two doubles. The pair lost 7-5.
Singles Competition
- The Panthers were outmatched in singles against Ferris State, losing the six matches.
- All the matches were done in two sets, but Johansen forced an extra game in set two of his match. Johansen lost 6-3 and 7-5.
Match 3 (Sunday): Davenport-2 | Northwood-5
Doubles Competition
- Davenport won one of the three doubles matches, but couldn't get the second to earn the point.
- McClurg and Bulmer continued their stellar play together, winning 7-6 (8-6) in one doubles.
- Johansen/van Antwerpen and Digby/Leatherman lost in their doubles matches.
Singles Competition
- Digby and van Antwerpen each won their singles matches.
- Digby came back after losing in the opening set 6-1. He then won 6-3 and 6-1 in sets two and three.
- In three singles, van Antwerpen won 6-1 and 6-4, cruising to his team-high 18th singles win this season.
- Johansen, McClurg, Bulmer, and Parker Keas all fell in their singles matches.
The Panthers season comes to a close with the trio of loses as Ashland takes the final seed in the GLIAC Tournament. Davenport was led by van Antwerpen in singles, who held an overall record of 18-7. In doubles, the duo of Bulmer/McClurg went 16-5, with 15 of the wins being in one doubles. Overall, Bulmer recorded the most wins, combining for 34 wins in doubles and singles.
