The Davenport men's lacrosse team will be making the jump from club-level lacrosse to the NCAA Division II ranks beginning this Sunday with a trip to seventh-ranked Seton Hill. The program is under the direction of fifth-year head coach
Chris Esquivel who has amassed 39 wins during his first four seasons. The Panthers finished with a 5-9 record a year ago in MCLA Division I and were 11-3 during the 2018 season.
Coach Esquivel will lean heavily on a senior class consisting of
Jack Huffman,
Blake Gibson-McDonald,
Cole Shuple,
Avery Buckius and
Logan Conwell. One of the team's top defenders,
Nick Mulcahy, will not compete this season due to injury. Gibson-McDonald is a top offensive returner with 22 goals and 32 assists in 2019. Buckius tallied 14 goals and three assists last season and the team will look for even more offensively from him. The Panthers will play a 14-game schedule and five of those opponents are ranked in the top 20 nationally to begin the season.
