GVSU Holiday Open kicks off indoor season

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport track and field teams competed in their only December meet on Friday night at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open. There were 15 events scored for both men and women. The Panther men earned 30.70 points and were fifth, while the women earned 13.70 points and were 11th.

Emma Schafer to begin her final indoor season placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds. Schafer also ran in the 200 meters but did not score with a time of 26.78. She also competed in the high jump and tied for sixth clearing 5' 2.5". Ella Gardner and Ellie Reynolds competed for the first time as a Panther in the 400 meters and finished at 1:04.78 and 1:04.82 respectively in the fifth heat. Autumn Hancock ran in the 800 meters and finished with a time of 2:27.36.

Alexandra Eby had a solid showing in the pole vault at 11' 9.75" and tied for third which earned 4.5 points. Mackenzie Brigham earned three points by finishing sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 34' 11.25".

On the men's side, Brendan LaLonde earned two points in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.32. Corbin DeJonge placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.28 to earn four points. Bryce Albrecht cleared 6' 2.25" in the high jump and tied for sixth. Jacob Atlas earned 1.50 points in the pole vault at a height of 14' 0".

Colin Grady won the long jump with a distance of 23' 1.25" and was the only athlete to go over seven meters. Isaiah Schafer won the shot put with a throw of 59' 3" and did that on his sixth and final attempt. Schafer also placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 59' 1.25".
