12/15/2022 3:51:00 PM

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team will be traveling to the Embry-Riddle Holiday Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida on Friday and Saturday in their last action before Christmas. The Panthers split a pair of games last week with a win over Indianapolis and a loss at No. 1 Grand Valley State. DU sits at 5-5 overall right now and will take on Embry-Riddle who is 4-4 overall on Friday at 11 AM followed by Saint Leo who is 7-2 overall on Saturday at 1 PM.

● Davenport 69, Indianapolis 63 (Dec. 7)

DU was facing a four-point halftime deficit before outscoring the Greyhounds 39-29 in the second half to pick up their fifth win of the season. Scout Nelson and Mary Liedel each tied for the game high in points with 13 while Lillee Gustafson secured the sixth double-double of her career with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Makenna Bryant added 10 points off the bench as has been one of the team's most-improved players. Ellie Toney also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to go with eight points. Nelson dished out three assists and Gustafson blocked a pair of shots. Nelson is averaging 2.8 assists and 10.6 points over her last five games. The teams were tied at 47 entering the fourth quarter. Ryan Harvey had the first bucket of the quarter and never trailed after that. Indianapolis got within two points at 55-53 with 2:30 left but then DU got a layup by Nelson and a triple by Bryant to make it 60-53 with 1:48 to play.

● #1 Grand Valley State 92, Davenport 47 (Dec. 11)

DU found it tough sledding right from the opening tip as the Lakers scored the first 10 points in 4:05 of game time. The Panthers scored their first points on a Makenna Bryant jumper at the 5:10 mark. The lead for Grand Valley State grew to 22-3 later in the quarter when Bryant hit a three-pointer at the 1:14 mark. The Lakers led 24-6 after the opening quarter. From there, the lead was maintained at 20-plus points beginning with 7:47 of the second quarter on a Hadley Miller layup. The 92 points were the most surrendered by the Panthers this season and the most since Dec. 9 of last season at Parkside. One glaring stat was points off turnovers in favor of GVSU by a 30-2 margin. Mary Liedel scored a team-high 12 points on 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 behind the arc. Lillee Gustafson and Bryant each had 10 points, while Gustafson added a team-high seven rebounds.
