GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - On a game that had to be rescheduled more than once due to COVID protocols and weather, the men's ACHA Division III team picked up a much-needed 6-2 win over Western Michigan at Patterson Ice Center on a rare Monday night tilt. The team snapped a six-game losing streak en route to their fifth win of the season.
There was a great deal of offense in this one as DU outshot WMU by a total of 58-38. The Panthers outshot the Stallions in each period and scored twice in each of the three periods. The power play for Davenport was also sublime with three goals coming via the man advantage.
Collin Rea got things started for the Stallions in the first period at 2:45. The Panthers closed out the period with back-to-back goals coming from
Aiden Dion and
Carter Osborn. Dion and Osborn also assisted on each other's goals and additional assists belonged to
Dillon Bond and
John Lizyness.
Rea again opened the scoring in the second period unassisted to tie it at 2-2 at the 5:19 mark.
Jared Kifer would next score the eventual game-winning goal at 11:04 from Dion and
Kevin Crawley on the power play.
Spencer Anderson then notched his third goal of the season at 13:05 from Osborn.
Crawley increased the lead to 5-2 at the 11:21 mark of the third period from
Luke Heneveld and Anderson on the power play. Osborn finished off one of his best games as a Panther with a power-play goal at 16:50 from Crawley and Dion. Jack Wilson for Western Michigan took a major penalty with contact to the head which led to the final two goals. Osborn and Dion had a four-point night for the Panthers.
Thomas Near made 36 saves in net for the Panthers.
