HARROGATE, Tenn. - Looking to bounce back from a 15-5 (six innings) defeat against Ohio Dominican in the first game of the day, Davenport turned to southpaw
Emma Miller in the nightcap against Maryville. The lefty came through with her 15th career complete game as the Panthers survived the Saints, 1-0, to improve to 1-1 and give head coach,
Kathryn Bzdafka, her first win as a Panther.
Miller struck out three batters and walked only one on 74 pitches with six hits surrendered. Offensively, the game's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when
Alexis Koza reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and
Rachel Griffin came around from second to score.
Against Ohio Dominican, Koza hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third frame and
Ellie Muilenburg scored in the fifth when
Monica Meger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the circle, Muilenburg suffered the loss with five innings pitched before giving way to
Taylor Simon's one inning of work.
Next up on Sunday, Davenport will face No. 13 Lincoln Memorial at 10 a.m. before seeing Ohio Dominican again at 2 p.m.
