HARROGATE, Tenn. - Davenport fell to No. 13 Lincoln Memorial, 8-0, in five innings to begin the day, but rebounded nicely to defeat Ohio Dominican, 3-2, and avenge Saturday's loss to ODU. Next up on the schedule, the 2-2 Panthers will travel to Winter Haven, Fla. on Feb. 27-March 4 for Spring break games.
In the victory over Ohio Dominican,
Emma Miller (2-0) gave up just two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and no walks on 93 pitches. Miller now has 16 career complete games, which is one away from tying Brianna Carpenter for seventh in program history.
On the offensive end,
Rylie Kalina (pictured) singled in
Riley Hasseld in the first,
Rachel Griffin scored during Kalina's steal of second base in the third and later that inning, Miller brought in Kalina with a base knock to second base. For the weekend, Hasseld went 5-of-13 in the box in the first four games of her career while Griffin was 4-of-12 at the dish.
Things got a bit dicey in the top of the sixth when Ohio Dominican trailed 3-2 but had runners on second and third with just one out. During McKenna Conley's plate appearance, Miller threw a wild pitch, but was able to cover the plate to deny the runner from scoring before Conley grounded out to second for the third out.
