TOLEDO, Ohio - The Davenport men's ACHA Division I hockey team had an offensive explosion on Thursday night as they traveled to the University of Toledo and won 11-4. It was the first meeting between the teams in five years and the Panthers picked up their second straight win in the process.
Jack Ludwig actually put the Rockets on the board first just 1:09 into the contest. Davenport responded with three straight goals to conclude the period and then scored the first two goals of the second period.
Taber Gutschick scored his first goal of the season at 1:37 of the first with a quick response to the Rockets' first goal.
Branwen Pollett continued the theme of scoring their first goal coming at 5:28 from
Justin Turner and
Ryan Blackburn. Turner made it 3-1 at the 6:00 mark from
Brendan Bauer and Blackburn for a comfortable lead heading into the first intermission.
Heath Drye netted his fourth of the season at 2:41 of the second period from
Robert McLaughlin and Pollett.
Kristers Klavins made it 5-1 at the 6:04 mark on the power play for his second goal of the season from Drye and
Keelan Saworski.
Toledo scored the next two goals to climb back down 5-3 but McLaughlin scored with five seconds left in the period on the power play from Klavins and
Dylan Jouppi for a 6-3 lead. DU scored five more times in the third period as Klavins scored twice. McLaughlin, Saworski, and Jacob Alton also scored in the final period.
Nathan Gauthier made 18 saves in net for DU. The Panthers held a 62-22 advantage in shots on goal for the game.
