Big Meet yields some big results for the Panthers

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State Big Meet brings teams from around the Midwest in any divisions to the Kelly Family Sports Center. This meet is a great measure of your ability and is a wonderful tune-up as the Panthers start to look forward to the upcoming GLIAC Indoor Championships.

The two-day event began on Friday and among the highlights for Davenport was Erin Dorn breaking the school record in the 800 meters with a national qualifying time of 2:10.93. She is currently ranked 13th in Division II after today's time. In the 5,000 meters it was Riley Schroeder (18:27.26) and Grace Buckland (18:30.85) finishing with the second and third best times at DU respectively. Brendan LaLonde in the 200 meters raced his way to the school record with a time of 21.89. Noah Evers competing in the shot out invite placed second with a personal best of 58' 1.75" and moved up to eighth in Division II.

The main schedule of events occured on Saturday and there were more highlights by the Panthers. Lisa Wangler was able to hit a national qualifier mark in the weight throw and finished third (56' 0.5"). Ella Baryo had the second-best mark at Davenport in the mile (5:01.21) and finished fifth in the race. Annabelle Schafer went to work in the 60-meter hurdles and had a personal best with the No. 4 best time in school history (9.12). Julia Tuuri in the 60-meter dash finished in a time of 7.97 which was the fifth-best all-time at DU. Sidney Heugel continued her assault on the pole vault winning with a height of 11' 11.75". The 4x400 meter relay also had a strong finish in third comprised of Erin Boettcher, Dorn, Leialani Akalaonu, and Tuuri (4:01.67).

Shawn Sims won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.95 and also had a personal best in the 200 meters finishing fourth with a time of 22.21. Both results were fifth all-time for the Panthers. Drew Sharrar ran the grueling 3,000 meters and set the school record with a time of 8:37.32. Collin Graham ran in the 800 meters with the second-best time in history at 1:56.10. Ethan Flores won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26. The 4x400 meter relay finished second with a time of 3:22.19 with a quartet of Ethan Scholten, Nolan Kudera, Graham and LaLonde.
