FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - It was a costly sixth inning which turned the tide on Friday in a 14-2 loss at Nova Southeastern for the Davenport baseball team. The Panthers (6-13) could not build off yesterday's 3-1 win over the Sharks and still have not won back-to-back this season.
The game got out of hand in the sixth inning as Davenport allowed seven runs on seven hits in the frame and went from 3-1 down to 10-1 down.
Jared Schwartz who was the second pitcher of the game for DU walked the leadoff man and
Alex Lord filled in. Lord got hit hard allowing four straight hits with a single, double, single, and double before
Jack Snow entered. Snow gave up a bunt single, an RBI single, and RBI double.Â
The bullpen was able to use three more arms in this one including
Jack Dungan,
Cade Kontny, and
Tyler McKinstry. Dungan allowed two runs in 2/3 of an inning with four walks and two strikeouts. Kontny threw to one batter and retired him in the seventh. McKinstry gave up one hit and two earned runs in the eighth inning.
Davenport's offense mustered just eight hits off four Shark pitchers. Cooper Omans (1-3) got the start for Nova Southeastern (11-10) and went six innings while allowing one run with a walk and six strikeouts.
Miko Rodriguez went 2-for-3 as the only Panther with multiple hits. He had an infield RBI single in the fourth inning.
Logan Todd drove in the other run in the eighth inning on a pinch-hit single up the middle.
The Panthers can still salvage the weekend series as the teams play at noon tomorrow in the rubber match.
