GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's wrestling team resumed GLVC action in matchups against No. 8 Indianapolis and Drury, dropping both duals 39-12 and 35-12, respectively.

"We wrestled two tough GLVC opponents in three days," said head coach Scott Lucas. "Despite the final scores, the coaches and I were happy with our team's effort and competitiveness."

Manuel Leija (125), Tyson Emmons (141), Darrin Alward (174), and Tyler Ueberroth (133) were the quad to secure DU's four victories, as all four Panthers finished the weekend 1-1 overall. Leija and Alward took a 6-0 victory in their matchups against UIndy, as Emmons and Ueberroth took 6-0 wins against Drury opponents.

"Alward's win came after beating a top 20 ranked wrestler from UIndy," Lucas said. "Freshman Jayden Schwartz wrestled very well in close and hard-fought matches, as did senior Crue Cooper - one of which was against the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the country."

"As a program, we are focused on continuous improvement and are confident that positive outcomes will follow as a result of that process," Lucas said.

The Panthers will take a few weeks to prepare for the GLVC Dual Championships hosted by Maryville University on Feb. 18 in St. Louis, MO.
