Panthers crush Dragons in double-digit victory

Ashley tallies four goals to lead all scorers

Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - Opening the 2024 season with an offensive onslaught, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated Tiffin University 22-6 on the road.

In his first season at DU, Dawson Gillette scored his first goal as a Panther in the first 60 seconds of the game (0:35) to give an early 1-0 lead. The Panthers capitalized for the next 14 minutes as they held a 7-2 advantage after the first period.

DU brought a 16-2 lead into the halftime break after a dominant 9-0 scoring run in the second, and even with momentum slowing up in the third as Tiffin outscored DU 2-1, the Panthers maintained the lead and added five more goals in the final period.

Nearly a dozen Panthers added to the goal total, as 11 individual scorers etched themselves in the boxscore. Jayden Ashley led the team with four goals (six-of-eight for shot-on-goal attempts), with Trevor McDonald and Braylon Baker tallying three apiece.

Luke Fritz, Ty Woods, and Keelan McKouen added two goals each, with the remaining goals scored by Sean Ryan, Griffin Poll, Charlie Fritz, and Gillette (one each). Lucas Renzetti (13 of 14) and Ryan (10 of 18) were brute forces in the faceoff circle, adding to the opportunities on offense for DU.

Daniel Milano and Antonio Hart assumed the goalkeeper position, with Milano marking five saves and two goals allowed and Hart saving seven shots and allowing four goals.

The Panthers will return to Grand Rapids for a road matchup against Calvin University on Tuesday, Feb. 13, with a 4 p.m. start time at Zuidema Field.
