Box Score MIDLAND, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team went to Northwood on Saturday evening and beat the Timberwolves 4-3 to improve to 6-1 overall this season. After losing the first seven meetings against Northwood, the Panthers have now won five straight with two of those in 4-3 fashion.
Davenport won two of the three doubles matchups to gain that early advantage.
Carlos Henriquez and
Simone Pacciolla competed at one doubles and gained the upper hand 6-3 against Alessandro Parigi and Max Wild.
Subash Paramasivam and
Jan Stolin also won 6-3 at two doubles against Kuzma Zubrii and Amaan Tezabwala.
Marius Pion and
Jose Brenes did not find that winning formula in a 6-3 loss at three doubles against Leon Grassnickel and Thomas Ladwein.
Wild got the win at one singles over Stolin in a three-set battle (6-4, 5-7, 6-4). Paramasivam kept his fine season going at two singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Parigi. The Timberwolves got the win at three singles in another tough three-set loss for the Panthers. Zubrii dropped the first set to Henriquez and then rallied for the win (5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5). Pion shook off the doubles loss and won a critical matchup at four singles against Grassnickel (6-1, 6-2). Tezabwala had no troubles in the five singles spot with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Brenes. Pacciolla at six singles had a breeze with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Ladwein.
The Panthers are back on the courts on Friday, Feb. 16 at 11:30 AM as they host NAIA member Lawrence Tech at Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
