Price homers in each game of the doubleheader at Central Missouri

DU dropped both games on Opening Day by scores of 3-1 and 10-2

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Carson Price homered in each game of the doubleheader on Opening Day for the Panthers at Central Missouri in a pair of losses to the Mules on Saturday. The Panthers dropped game one by a score of 3-1 in seven innings and then fell 10-2 in the nine-inning game two.

Conner Wolf was dealing in game one for the Mules with 5.2 no-hit innings to start the game. Michael Tchavdarov was hit by a pitch in the second inning and Coltrane Rubner walked in the fourth inning as the only baserunners until Price broke up the no-hitter and the shutout with a home run to left field. At the time, it made the score 2-1 in favor of Central Missouri. UCM scored one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball to score Max Holy.

Rubner singled to leadoff the seventh inning and that was the last hit in game one for Davenport. Wolf improved to 2-0 with a complete game, seven-inning effort. He struck out nine and walked just one. Tyler McKinstry got the start for DU and went four innings. He gave up three hits and one earned run with two walks and five strikeouts. Cade Kontny gave up a solo home run to Jack Schark in the fifth inning and recorded two outs. Connor Foley in his first appearance as a Panther went 1.1 innings with no earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts.

Price homered again in game two and at the time made it 2-1 Mules in the fifth inning. The latter innings got away from the Panthers as UCM scored five runs in the seventh inning. Schark also homered again in game two with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jacob Steele went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI for Central Missouri. Brett Grupe also drove in two runs with a triple in the seventh inning.

The offense fared slightly better in the nightcap with four hits. Josh Robinson went 2-for-3 at the plate and Anthony Aloisio also had a hit in two at-bats with two walks. Carson Fischer took the loss going four innings and allowing one earned run with four strikeouts and two walks. DU used six pitchers in game two and Bobby Kelly was the only one to not allow a run in the eighth inning. Tyler Kotsis in relief got the win for UCM. He went three innings as the second pitcher of the game for the Mules and fanned three with one walk.

The two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow starting at 2:00 PM eastern.
