BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport Esports team captured the 2024 GLIAC Esports Tournament over the weekend hosted by Ferris State University. It is the first tournament win for the Panthers in the second year of the event. There were seven GLIAC institutions competing including DU, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Michigan Tech, Purdue Northwest, Saginaw Valley State, and Wayne State.
The Panthers Super Smash Brothers team finished third but battled back after losing their first match 2-0 against Saginaw Valley State. They won three matches in the lower bracket against PNW, GVSU and WSU before falling again to the Cardinals 2-1 in the lower bracket final.Â
During the League of Legends competition, the Panthers placed second losing to Purdue Northwest in the grand finals. The Valorant team took first place going undefeated during the event and beat the Pride in the finals. The Rocket League portion also won going undefeated and beat Grand Valley State in the grand finals.
