UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) held its Indoor Track and Field Championships over the past two days on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. Davenport had another great meet and continue to build their programs in the process. The future looks bright as evidenced by a pair of freshmen who took home major awards.
Julia Ott was named GLIAC Female Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet while
Solomon King earned High Point Athlete of the Meet and GLIAC Male Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet. Ott was able to finish third in the pentathlon with a total of 3,071 points and scored six team points. She also finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 5' 2.25" and scored five team points. King was a two-time champion in the 60 and 200 meters. He was the king of the sprints in the conference with a time of 6.86 in the 60 meter finals and 21.91 in the 200 meter finals. In addition, King ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that placed third in a time of 3:20.19.
Nolan Kudera,
Marshall Brooks, and
Rease Teel ran the first three legs for the Panthers in the relay.
The Panthers also had three others who were crowned as event champions.
Annabelle Schafer won the pentathlon following in the footsteps of her older sister Emma. Schafer scored 3,343 points to hit a NCAA provisional mark.
Erin Dorn was victorious in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.14 and set the school indoor record in the process. She improved her NCAA provisional time which is currently 16th and right on the edge on qualifying for nationals.
Noah Evers won the shot put and set a new school indoor record with a throw of 62' 10.5". That mark is currently second in Division II and will punch his ticket to nationals.
In other strong performances, the women's 4x400 meter relay finished third with a time of 3:57.21. The relay consisted of
Erin Boettcher, Haley Esser,
Kierstyn Stoin, and Dorn.
Kay-Lee McSwain placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91.
Sidney Heugel finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 11' 7.75". Boettcher was sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.51.
Julia Tuuri brought home sixth place in the 60 meters with a time of 7.86 seconds.
Ella Baryo set a new school indoor record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:13.98.
Bryce Monroe placed third in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark of 56' 8.75" and earned six team points.
James Horn was also fifth in the shot put as the most successful event in terms of total points earned during the meet. Horn threw a distance of 52' 1.25" for four team points.
Nolan Kudera placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.36. Nik Shilling was also fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.91. He made the NCAA provisional mark but did not improve on his best time earlier this season.
