HOUGHTON, Mich. - The final Thursday GLIAC women's basketball contest of 2023-24 for Davenport was a long road trip to Michigan Tech. The Panthers played the Huskies close in the second and fourth quarters actually outscoring them 34-33. It was the first and third quarters which provided the significant difference as the Huskies held the 58-30 edge in a 91-64 final outcome.
Michigan Tech improved to 15-10 overall and 11-6 in the GLIAC with a dominant first quarter which set the tone for the remainder of the game. They scored 28 points in the opening 10 minutes and shot 11-of-16 from the floor including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. The third quarter was even more impressive going 10-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Davenport would finish the game shooting 40 percent including 4-of-12 from the arc. They were 8-of-10 at the free throw line, which was the third game this season at 80 percent or more from the charity stripe.
Lillee Gustafson led the team with 13 points going 5-of-11 from the floor and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Nevaeh Williams pulled down five rebounds to tie her career high.
Ellie Toney tossed in 11 points going 5-of-8 from the floor and also had four boards.
Amyah Espanol scored seven points, just two shy of her season high, and set a season high with three assists.
Jaci Walker scored nine points off the bench and also had a block and steal.
The Panthers will wrap up the season on Saturday, Mar. 2 beginning at 11 AM against Northern Michigan in Marquette, Mich.
