ASHLAND, Ohio - The Davenport baseball team needed a win in the worst way and went extra innings on Sunday before heading home from No. 17 Ashland with a 10-8 victory. The Panthers had a comeback win against the Eagles after trailing 8-5 heading into the eighth inning.
Anthony Aloisio has been the team's clutch performer this season and delivered a two-run single in the eighth to get within 8-7. The Panthers then needed a run in the ninth inning and got one.
Coltrane Rubner drove in
Michael Tchavdarov who singled to left center to start the inning.
The Panthers then took control in the 10th inning with a pair of runs.
Josh Robinson drew a four-pitch walk to lead off and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He got closer with a throwing error to third and
Carson Price also walked on six pitches. Tchavdarov had the game-winning RBI with a single to left as Robinson scored the ninth run. Later in the inning, Rubner came through with a two-out double to the left center gap as Price scored the 10th run.
Austin VanderMarkt had a wonderful relief performance on the mound and picked up the win. He tossed the final three innings and did not allow a hit with a walk. Ethan Stevens took the loss for Ashland and recorded one out and walked two in the 10th inning.
Tchavdarov went 3-for-6 with two RBI. Aloisio drove in three runs and also had a double and a run scored. Rubner had a pair of doubles going 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.
Connor Hnilo was an unsung hero getting the start at second base and going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Three hits in a game is his new career high.
The Panthers will start GLIAC play on Friday, March 22 at Purdue Northwest in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 PM ET.
