MLAX Preview: DU hosts No. 8 UIndy to start league play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Crushing records from previous seasons, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team prepares to host No. 8 University of Indianapolis in the team's first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup this season.

The Panthers are red hot at the halfway mark of the year, maintaining a perfect 7-0 record as they come off a 10-day break from action.

DU's recent victories came on the road against Dominican (CA) on March 5 and Walsh University on March 9, the games ending 13-10 and 10-8, respectively. The wins were the second and t-third lowest margins of victory this season, as the Panthers have averaged a six-point differential thus far.

Daniel Milano's .579 save percentage is the third-best in the GLVC, with Kaden Seelye leading the conference in caused turnovers per game (3.57). Leading the team in total goals, Jayden Ashley averages 2.86 scores for the third-best average in the GLVC. Braylon Baker's play as a first-year Panther has been crucial as he maintains a conference-high 5.86 points per contest.

Kicking off league play at home, DU will look to maintain their win streak in a trivial matchup that could set the tone for the second half of the schedule.

Indianapolis Matchup
With six games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Hounds are 7-2 thus far and have downed three top-15 opponents in those nine games, including No. 2 Rollins in their most recent matchup (11-7) on March 16.

UIndy is no stranger to competing at the national level. Last season was their fourth-consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament and their second quarterfinal appearance in four seasons (not including the shortened COVID season). The Hounds were ranked No. 9 in the USILA Preseason Poll and were selected to finish tied in third with Rockhurst in the GLVC Preseason Poll.

Offensively, Owain Braddock is one of six Hounds in double digits for goals, leading the team with 19 total, as Triston Schaffer's 17 goals are a close second (team assists leader; 11). The reigning GLVC Specialist of the Year and current two-time Defensive Player of the Week, Caleb Parker, leads the conference with 78 groundballs (8.67 per game). KC Carlson has logged 526 minutes in the nets with 77 saves (No. 5 GLVC) and the fifth-best goals-against average at 8.21.

UIndy has won all three meetings in the series history against DU that began in 2021, averaging just over a nine-point differential in the victories as the Panthers attempt to rewrite history against the opponent.
