MLAX Preview: DU hits the road for a two-game week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University men's lacrosse is back on the road for their final non-conference matchup and a return to league play to cap off the week.

The Panthers fell to then-No. 8 Indianapolis for the team's first taste of conference action this season, resulting in their first loss after an impressive 7-0 streak. Dropping the game 17-8 at home, DU's 5-1 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the first period transpired into an offensive heater by the Hounds.

Luke Eichbauer was the team's leading scorer with two goals as half a dozen Panthers added one goal each. The loss was the most goals allowed in a game by Daniel Milano this season, who tallied a .541 save percentage in the effort.

DU looks to shake off the loss in a two-match road trip down south.

Thomas More Matchup
March 26 will be the first-ever meeting between DU and Thoms More but will be the first of many as the Panthers merge with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) next season.

Graham Houser leads the squad with 25 goals on .521 shooting, followed by Spencer Lethbridge and Nick Borlin with 16 and 12 goals, respectively. A trio of Saints have been disruptors on defense, including Patrick Giles (17), Sammy Davis (13), and Zach Colbert (10), who lead the squad in caused turnovers.

In the earlier stages as a program, the Saints are in their second season in school history and are searching for their second-ever win in the program's existence. Thomas More is 0-6 overall (0-3 GMAC) as they head into their third home game this season.

Maryville Matchup
The Saints are 7-2 thus far as they kick off league play in a home game against the Panthers. Two victories came against No. 18 Lewis (13-5) on Feb. 10 and No. 15 Colorado Mesa (12-8) on March 8, with the most recent game resulting in a 14-8 win over Montevallo on March 23.

Falling in the GLVC Tournament semifinals to Rockhurst last year, Maryville was selected to finish in a first-place tie with Lewis this year - receiving four first-place votes. The team has maintained a top-20 rank in the USILA Coaches Poll since the preseason selection, coming in at No. 16 this week.

Tied for second in the GLVC standings, Zach Baker leads Maryville in goals (23) while maintaining a conference second-best 2.88 goals per game average. Amongst conference goalkeepers, Dylan Radke has allowed the third-lowest amount of goals at 72 total (minimum eight games played).

DU is still searching for its first win against Maryville, as the historical record stands at 0-4 overall.
