CALEDONIA, Mich. - It was a topsy-turvy doubleheader on Saturday for the Davenport baseball team as they dropped game one 10-2 and then turned it around in game two for a 13-2 victory. The Rangers beat the Panthers for just the second time in game one and with DU's victory in the nightcap they are now 19-2 in the all-time series.
The Rangers handed DU their fifth straight loss after starting the GLIAC at 2-0 in game one. Parkside put up double-digit runs for the first time ever against the Panthers and scored the first 10 runs of the game before Davenport scored twice in the fifth inning. In that inning,
Anthony Aloisio had a two-RBI double down the left field line to score
Josh Robinson and
Connor Hnilo.
Logan Todd went 2-for-3 and Robinson finished 2-for-4 as part of DU's eight hits.
Carson Price also had a double in three at-bats. Kaleb Schulist had a solid pitching effort for the Rangers. He threw a complete game and allowed two runs with a walk and six strikeouts to improve to 3-0.
Tyler McKinstry (0-2) got the start and the loss going 2.2 innings and allowing five hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.
Game two was a much different story for the Panthers who scored in four of their first five at-bats to build a 10-0 lead. Aloisio drove in three runs with a RBI groundout in the first and a two-RBI double in the fifth. Hnilo also delivered a two-RBI single in the six-run fifth for DU. Todd had a RBI single in the seventh inning for an 11-0 lead. He finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Michael Tchavdarov went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
Austin VanderMarkt improved to 2-1 on the mound in his best start of the season. He went six innings and allowed no runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
