GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Fresh off an undefeated week, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team (5-0) is nationally ranked for the first time as an NCAA DII program.
DU comes in at No. 27 in the USILA Coaches Poll after defeating Malone University 19-10 on Feb. 28 and Lake Erie 13-5 on March 2, both games at home.
Jayden Ashley led the way with eight goals, five of which came against Malone, and remains the team leader on the season with 17 total. Ashley is third in the GLVC for goals per game average (3.40) and t-third for goal total. Keelan McKouen reached a career milestone of 100 points after four goals and two assists between the games, as Braylon Baker remains an offensive threat with four goals and three assists on the week. Baker currently leads the conference in points per game (5.40) and assists per game (3.00).
The Panthers are third in the GLVC with a 7.4 scoring margin, averaging 15.6 goals per game. DU remains as the only undefeated GLVC team heading into their two-game road trip.
Dominican (CA) Matchup
Riding a four-game skid since Feb. 17, the Penguins are looking to turn things around (2-4 overall) in their debut season of being an NCAA Division II program. Since 2015, Dominican was part of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) at the club level ahead of their merger this season.
Per-Anders Olters leads Dominican with 17 goals, shooting .667% on 51 attempts. Followed by Olters is Jason Eide with 10 goals (four assists), Brennan Krebs with eight, and Jesse Fisher with seven. Hunter Tristan has seen the most action in net with 74 saves (.416 save percentage) and 104 goals allowed, logging 335 minutes as the starting keeper.
Dominican will face DU for the first-ever meeting between the programs, followed by a road game against Quincy this week.
Walsh Matchup
The Cavaliers are searching for their first win this season (0-3) after being selected to finish No. 4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) this year.
Walsh fell short of a conference title after losing to Seton Hill in the 2023 GMAC Tournament semifinals as they return a pair of Third Team All-GMAC players in Alex Movshin and Mike Sawulak. Sawulak currently leads the team in caused turnovers (four) as Movshin has played 180 minutes in goal for the Cavs, marking 39 saves and allowing 46 goals.
The all-time series sits at 1-1, with both games decided by a single goal. DU secured the victory in the 2023 matchup (13-12) as both teams prepare to take the series lead this week.
