Panthers fall 9-6 to No. 20 Rockhurst

Box Score KANSAS CITY, MO - Davenport University men's lacrosse fell 9-6 to No. 20 Rockhurst in a much-needed win for the Panthers.

The conference-leading Hawks scored in the first 32 seconds of the game, but their lead was short-lived as an unanswered 3-0 scoring run by DU put momentum on the Panthers' side. However, two goals by Rockhurst at the 4:35 and 1:32 marks leveled the score going into the second period.

The second was all about defense, as neither team could manage a score until the final minutes. Jayden Ashley capitalized on a man-down situation to regain the lead for DU, with a goal by Braylon Baker in the final seconds of the half giving the Panthers a two-goal advantage.

Unfortunately for DU, a scoring drought in the third period would be their demise as five unanswered goals by the Hawks gave the opponent an 8-5 lead with 15 minutes left to play. Baker's second goal of the game at the 12:21 mark of the fourth period cut the deficit to two but would be the final score by the Panthers.

DU was a perfect 27-of-27 on clearances but struggled again in the faceoff circle (2-of-18). Ashley finished with three goals (game-high): two from Baker and one from Luke Eichbauer. Defensively, Kaden Seelye led the effort with three caused turnovers and four groundballs, Daniel Milano making 14 saves for a .609 save percentage in the effort - his third-highest mark this season.

Fighting for a berth in the GLVC Tournament, DU's conference record dropped to 1-4, and play in their final regular season and conference game at home against William Jewell on Apr. 27.
