ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Davenport track and field teams braved unseasonable spring weather with cold and windy conditions at the Grand Valley State Al Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday. The highlights of the meet included a pair of school records that fell.
Bryce Albrecht broke his own record in the pole vault clearing 16-feet (4.88 M) just eclipsed his old record of 4.87 M set last May. Albrecht also hit a NCAA qualifying mark and is currently 30
th in Division II. Nik Shilling also set a school record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.26 and won the event. He broke the old record by Joey Fox of 1:55.16 set in May 2022.
In other top performances,
Noah Evers finished second in the shot put with a throw of 58' 3.25" on his second attempt.
Bryce Monroe placed third in the same event with a throw of 57' 4.25" which was the third best in school history and improved his NCAA qualifying mark to 13
th in the country.
Solomon King won the 100 meters with a time of 10.60 and teammate
Ethan Scholten took third place with a time of 10.76.
King was not done as he placed second in the 200 meters (21.55).
Jordan Domany had a fantastic race in the 5,000 meters and took second at 15:13.11.
Rogan Melling was right on his heels with a third place finish of 15:19.39.
Adam Jorgensen claimed third place in the 110 hurdles (15.59).
Alexander Hernandez competing in the hammer throw invite placed third with a throw of 178' 11". Evers also had a strong showing in the discus with a throw of 172' 1" and placed third. He hit a NCAA provisional mark but did not improve upon his standing.
Julia Tuuri paced the sprinters in the 100 meters and came away with second place (12.49). She also would finish sixth in the 200 meters (25.52).
Soleil Moore ran the second fastest time in school history in the 200 meters (25.16) and took fifth. Moore also had a solid race in the 400 meters (59.48) and placed third.
Erin Dorn won the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.03.
Kay-Lee McSwain took third in the 100 hurdles (15.33) and
Annabelle Schafer ended up running the exact same time. The 4x100 relay finished second with a time of 47.96. Schafer placed fourth in the long jump (17' 9.75").
Jayla Procter had the fifth-best all-time mark in the discus (127' 2"). Schafer continued her efforts with a first-place showing in the javelin (114').
