ALLENDALE, Mich. - The track and field teams had one final preparation meet on Thursday (Apr. 25) at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet as they now look forward to the GLIAC Championships which get underway on May 1 back in Allendale. The Panthers were able to win four events at the meet by three different student-athletes.
Julia Tuuri ran to a first-place finish in the 100 meters (12.04) and set a new school record in the process.
Bryce Albrecht claimed victory in the pole vault at a height of 16' 5.5" which hit a NCAA qualifying mark. He also was able to establish a new school record and he currently ranks 16th in Division II on that performance list.
Noah Evers did his usual
Noah Evers thing and won the shot put (61' 7.5") and discus (172' 1"). He did hit the NCAA qualifying mark in both events and improved his feat to second in Division II in the shot put.
Bryce Monroe also had a very good meet in throws as he finished second in the shot put (58' 11.25") with a personal best and improved his national mark to eighth in Division II. Monroe was third in the discus with a throw of 163' 8".
Adam Jorgensen finished second in the long jump (22' 0.25") on his first attempt.
Nick Ruvalcaba placed second behind Albrecht in the pole vault with a clearance of 15' 9". Nik Shilling crossed the finish line second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.91 to hit the NCAA qualifying time. It was his personal best and improved his own school record. He is currently 34th in Division II.
Solomon King finished second in the 100 meters (10.71).
Tyler Guggemos ran the second-fastest time in DU history in the 800 meters (1:54.18).
Tuuri followed up her 100 meters win by finishing fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 25.07 which is one hundredths of a second from the school record.
Kierstyn Stoin finished seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 1:00.25.
Erin Dorn finished sixth in the 800 meters (2:10.97) which hit the NCAA qualifying mark but did not improve her placement which is still 31st in Division II.
Julia Ott placed second in the high jump (5' 1.75").
