Head Coach
Shonda Sanders will be embarking on her third season with Davenport University in 2024-25 and has announced that six newcomers will be joining the program after the recruiting efforts of her and the coaching staff for the Panthers. Below you will read her comments about each student-athlete in the class.
#3 Brianna "Bri" ThomasÂ
Freshman - Shooting Guard
Trenton High School (Mich.)
"Bri is a pure knockdown three-point shooter with unlimited range. Her length and energy is going to be a huge focus in the defensive end. I'm so excited to watch Bri grow through her freshman year and can't wait for our fans to get to know her."
#13 Ellayna "Laynie" Meredith
Freshman - Point Guard
Portland St. Patrick High School (Mich.)
"Laynie's ability to guard 94 feet and being able to put pressure on the opposing team's point guard is going to be huge for us. Her energy is unmatched and I can't wait to watch Laynie grow throughout her career here at Davenport."
#2 Hannah Schroeder
Junior - Guard
Allendale High School (Mich.) - Transfer from Northwood University
"Hannah's leadership, positive energy and experience is going to be big for us this year. Being a two-way guard that can play on the ball and off the ball is a huge strength. Her ability to push the pace in transition, passing capabilities and being able to guard 94 feet defensively is going to be key for us as a team and our future success."
#14 Deyonce Thompson
Junior - Guard
East Kentwood High School (Mich.) - Transfer from Delaware State
"What attracted me to Deyonce was her ability to create for herself off the dribble and her size at the guard position. Because of her size, she can play multiple positions and it makes her hard to defend. Defensively she's able to guard positions one through four and also can play in multiple areas in a press. I'm excited for our fans to see her play and to watch her grow over these next two years."
#15 Armoni "Moni" Strozier
Sophomore - Center
Flint Carman Ainsworth High School (Mich.) - Transfer from Bradley University
"Moni has to be one of the best post passers I've seen in a long time. The way she reads the floor and has the ability to thread the needle with her passes is huge for us. Not only is she a great passer, but she's also a rebound machine who has the nose for the ball. Her skill set is special and I can't wait to watch her blossom over the next three years."
#33 Kayla Covington
Redshirt Sophomore - Center
Arbor Prep High School (Mich.) - Transfer from Wayne State
"Kayla is so athletic it's insane. Her ability to rebound, run the floor and block shots is going to help us out alot defensively and on the boards. With her athleticism, she has the ability to switch off on smaller guards and also play the top of the press. Her versatility defensively is going to be fun to watch this year for our fans."
