Panthers Aim to Protect Home Turf Against Tech and NMU

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Davenport University women's soccer team closed out its 10th and 11th matches of the season last week, falling 0-2 to Roosevelt before earning a 1-1 draw against the Bulldogs of Ferris State. The Panthers now turn their attention to the second round of GLIAC play, set to host Michigan Tech on Oct. 17 and Northern Michigan on Oct. 19, both at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

Offensively, Ella Chatfield leads the team in points (6) while tying for the team lead in goals (2) alongside Sofia Capoccia. Chatfield also shares the assists lead with Megan Malek and Josie Wilcox, who each have two. Wilcox continues to be a key offensive presence, leading the Panthers with 18 total shots, seven of which have been on target.

In net, Elizabeth Wolter has been the go-to goalkeeper over the last five matches, recording 27 saves on 84 shots faced while holding a 1.81 goals-against average.

Following this weekend's contests, Davenport will have just five matches remaining in the 2025 GLIAC regular season as postseason contention approaches.

Michigan Tech Matchup
In their previous meeting on Sept. 26, Davenport secured a 3-1 victory in Houghton, Mich., with goals from Sofia Capoccia, Jordan Kerns, and Ella Chatfield. The Panthers turned in one of their strongest performances of the season, registering 18 total shots with 11 on target and recording five assists as a team. They'll look to carry that momentum into Friday's matchup at 5 p.m.

Historically, the Panthers trail narrowly in the all-time series with the Huskies, holding a 5-6-2 record since joining the GLIAC in 2017. Offensively, Peyton Wetzel leads the team with three goals and 18 points, while Olivia Gette has tallied 15 shots, including eight on goal. Both Wetzel and Gette will look to continue their strong offensive play against Davenport's disciplined defensive unit.

In net for the Huskies, Bri Barrows has started 10 matches this season, facing 140 shots and making 57 saves. She has allowed 15 goals, holding a 1.76 goals-against average and a .792 save percentage on the year.

Northern Michigan Matchup
Historically, Northern Michigan holds the advantage in the all-time series, leading 8-3-2 against Davenport. The two teams last met earlier this season on Sept. 28, when the Wildcats claimed a 4-0 victory in Marquette.

Northern Michigan enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-4-4 and a 3-3-1 mark in GLIAC play. Before traveling to Caledonia, the Wildcats will face Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 17.

Offensively, Hannah Kastamo leads NMU with four goals and 10 points, while Madison Bilbia paces the team with 35 shots, including 13 on goal. Bilbia ranks first in the GLIAC in total shots and fifth in shots on goal.

In net, the Wildcats have split time between goalkeepers Carly Sides and Jillian Thompson, who have combined for a 1.36 goals-against average. The duo has faced 128 shots this season, making 52 total saves.
