Preview: Panthers Resume Conference Play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After 10 days without a game, the Davenport men's lacrosse team returns to the field for a pair of road G-MAC contests this week. The Panthers (1-6, 1-1 G-MAC) head to Tiffin on Tuesday followed by a trip to Thomas More on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Tyler Burd leads the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.14) for the Panthers, which ranks 14th across all of NCAA Division II. He has also picked up 27 ground balls, scored one goal and dished out an assist in seven goals played.

Junior Logan Flaherty averages 9.14 ground balls per game, ranking first in the conference and fourth in the nation. 

Offensively, three Panthers are in double-digits for goals scored on the season; Luke Fritz (13), Seve Cordero (13) and Jayden Ashley (12).

About the Dragons 
  • In their inaugural season, the Dragons finished their 2024 campaign with a 4-10 overall record, going 1-7 in G-MAC action.
  • Lost both of their All-Conference performers from a season ago; Brandon MacDonell and Mike Roman.
  • Aiden Criteser is the leading scorer for the Dragons, tallying 10 on the season thus far. He has also scooped 21 ground balls, forced five turnovers and dished out two assists in his sophomore campaign.
  • In the net, Dawson Baker leads Tiffin. The freshman averages 11.41 saves per game, which ranks fourth in the conference.
  • Coming off their first conference win of the season, a 15-5 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday, March 22. 
  • Picked to finish eighth in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

About the Saints 
  • Finished last season 2-10 overall with a 2-6 record in G-MAC action.
  • The Saints returned their top three points leaders from last season, including sophomore Graham Houser, who led the team with 25 goals in the season.
  • Wyatt Fruland is the top offensive threat for the Saints. The graduate student leads the team in goals (20) and assists (17), both of which rank inside the top ten in the G-MAC. In the season opener against Montevallo, Fruland recorded 10 points (five goals and five assists). 
  • Spencer Lethbridge earned G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors (March 3).
  • Trevor Almanza is the primary goalkeeper for the Saints, playing and starting in all eight games. The junior has totaled 81 saves and a .422 save percentage on the season, giving up 16.27 goals per game.
  • Picked to finish ninth in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
