CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport track and field teams hosted their annual outdoor meet on Friday and Saturday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex stadium. It was a chance to showcase their talents to the local fans and also an opportunity to recognize this year's outstanding senior class.
The highlights of the meet included a few school records that are rewritten. Senior
Garrett Melling won the 3,000 steeplechase and broke an 11-year old school record held by Cam Magro. Melling finished in a time of 9:23.32 to break the old mark by almost four seconds. Freshman
Brayden Green won the triple jump and set the new school record of 47' 9" (14.55m). The old mark was set by Obi Iwaugwu during the 2018 season. The women's 4x100 relay tied the school record (47.45) and won the event consisting of
Arrionna Wallace,
Hanah Johnson,
Jaiden Young, and
Julia Tuuri. That record was set one year ago.
Erin Boettcher rounded out the school records with a first-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 56.46. That was about five-tenths of a second faster than Alli Veneklase from the 2015 season.
Other notable performances included the men's 4x100 relay winning the event and having the third-best time in school history at 40.97.
Ethan Scholten,
Malcolm Earvin,
Kaharrie Pureifoy, and
Ibrahim Fall made up the relay team.
Lucas Van Meter in the 1,500 meters placed second with the third-best time at DU (4:00.53). Fall won the 200 meters (21.52) and had the fourth-best time at DU.
Chandler Griffiths finished in fourth place in the shot put and his throw of 52' 2.5" was the fourth-best at DU.
Bryce Albrecht in the pole vault won the event with a NCAA provisional mark of 16' 3.25".
Mark Palmeter competed in the grueling decathlon and placed third with 5,927 points. That total is third-best at DU.
Soleil Moore finished second in the 400 meters (57.27) to have the third-best time at DU.
Bronte Hodson in the javelin had the fourth-best throw at DU (118' 2") and won the event.
Hannah Fitzpatrick placed second in the same event (104' 10").
Jayla Procter placed second in the discus with a throw of 135' 5".
Bree Hardy placed fourth in the long jump (16' 7") with a new PR.
Maria Da Cunha placed second in the 100 hurdles (15.79) with a new PR.
Ella Baryo placed second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.47. Tuuri won the 100 (12.18) and 200 meters (24.87).
