CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team picked up win No. 30 on the season on Tuesday with a 10-3 victory over Hillsdale. The Chargers homered on the first at-bat of the game by Gaard Swenson off
Conor Gausselin, but they would not score again until two runs in the ninth when the Panthers already had a 10-1 lead.
Davenport was able to open up the game with seven runs in the sixth inning. Winston Delp entered as the third pitcher of the game for Hillsdale and gave up a leadoff double to
Xander Reisbig.
Cody Hultink walked and then
Logan Todd had a one-out RBI single with the bases loaded for a 3-1 lead.
Sam Clay was hit by a pitch for a 4-1 lead. Andrew George entered for Delp and a throwing error at the plate allowed the fifth run to score.
Michael Tchavdarov had a two-RBI single to right for a 7-1 lead.
Justin Johnson followed with a RBI single for an 8-1 lead. Reisbig walked in his second at-bat of the inning to again load the bags.
Dylan Pawenski had an infield RBI single to drive in the seventh run of the inning and a 9-1 advantage.
Chase Kemp had a RBI single to right field in the eighth inning to score pinch runner
Travis Liford for the 10-1 lead. The Chargers would score twice in the ninth on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Tchavdarov led the team with three RBI and went 2-for-4. Pawenski went 2-for-4 with a walk, run, and RBI. Kemp and Todd also had two hits. Todd had a double and scored twice. Reisbig was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
The Panthers used six pitchers as Gausselin got the start and went two innings. He struck out two and walked none.
Zach Hopman pitched for the first time this season and in two innings allowed just one hit with a walk and two strikeouts.
Mason Hill got the win (2-0) with two innings of work and allowed no runs on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Aidan Arbaugh tossed two innings and gave up no runs on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.
Coltrane Rubner got two outs in the ninth, but gave up two runs and hit two batters.
Brayden Flanders got the final out on a groundout.
The Panthers (30-11) are back to GLIAC action on Friday, April 25 in Detroit against Wayne State starting at 3:00 PM.Â
