PREVIEW: Panthers Set for Saturday Home Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After starting the season with three consecutive road contests, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team is set for its home and conference opener on Saturday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. at the DU Turf Field against Wheeling.

The Panthers have earned back-to-back G-MAC Athlete of the Week nods. First, in week one, Sean House was named Defensive Player of the Week after accumulating an impressive 27 saves against No. 4 Maryville. The following week, Jayden Ashley was named Offensive Player of the Week following a 10-point (seven goals and three assists) performance to lead DU past Madonna.

On the season, Ashley leads the offense with 14 points, 10 goals and four assists. In three games, House has spent every minute in the net, accumulating 52 saves.

About the Cardinals
  • Last season, the Cards finished 8-7 overall and 6-3 in G-MAC action. Entering the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed, Wheeling knocked out DU in the opening round 12-9.
  • The Cardinals lost four of their top five scorers from 2025. Jack Rowe is the top returner for Wheeling, who ranked second on the team in goals with 37 last year.
  • Defensively, Wheeling returned two key pieces in Owen Worley and Gage Kimmel, each finishing with double-digit caused turnovers last year.
  • Dropped their season opener to Lincoln Memorial 15-8 on Saturday, Feb. 7.
