ORLANDO, Fla. - Davenport men's tennis battled to the wire on Saturday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., falling 4-3 to Southern New Hampshire in a tightly contested matchup to start their spring trip.
The Panthers opened the day by claiming the doubles point, highlighted by a 7-5 win at No. 1 from
Simone Pacciolla and
Adrian Constantin and a thrilling 7-6 (7-2) triumph at No. 3 by
Jaden Bender and
Daniel Calver. Carrying momentum into singles play, Davenport looked poised to secure the team win.
In singles competition, Jan Stolin earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 (6-3, 7-5), while Adrian Constantin battled back after dropping the first set to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. However, the Penmen captured four singles matches overall, including three-set decisions at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6, to edge out the narrow victory. With the result, Davenport moves to 5-5 on the season after the hard-fought setback. They are back on the courts tomorrow against Florida Southern at 2:30 PM.
