FINDLAY, Ohio — The Davenport University men's tennis team fell 5–2 to the University of Findlay on Sunday at the YMCA East Branch. The Panthers move to 7–10 overall on the season following the non-conference matchup.
Davenport dropped all three doubles matches against the Oilers. The closest result was a 7-5 at No. 1 doubles from
Daniel Calver and
Jaden Bender. The other doubles ended at 6-4. The Oilers continued their momentum in singles competition, winning four of the six matches to ultimately secure the team victory.
The Panthers earned two points in singles play, highlighted by Jan Stolin's three-set win at No. 1 singles over Clement Andrieu, 6–4, 1–6, 6–3. Reuben Bakker also delivered a hard-fought performance at No. 5 singles, battling back to win in a match tiebreaker 3–6, 7–5, 10–8. Despite the efforts, Findlay closed out the match with wins at the remaining singles positions to claim the 5–2 result. No. 3 and No. 4 singles did go into the third set. Bender fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 against Matthis Veniard and
Rudiger Dusselberg fell 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 against Aleksandar Ivancevic.
The Panthers are back to GLIAC play this Friday, Mar. 20 in Chicago against Roosevelt.
