GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Davenport University men's tennis team dropped a pair of GLIAC matchups over the weekend, falling 7-0 to Ferris State on Friday and 7-0 to Wayne State on Saturday at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
vs. Ferris State (March 27)
Ferris State opened the weekend by sweeping all three doubles flights to take early control of the match, highlighted by a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles by Adrian Catahan and Erik Kovacs. The Bulldogs carried that momentum into singles play, where they claimed all six points, including five straight-set victories. Jan Stolin at No. 1 singles battled in three sets against Kevin Kovacs (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).
The Panthers moved to 8-11 overall and 1-2 in GLIAC play following the loss.
vs. Wayne State (March 28)
The Panthers responded with a much stronger showing against Wayne State, pushing multiple matches deep into competition despite the 7-0 final. Davenport dropped a tightly contested doubles point, with all three flights decided by narrow margins (6-4, 7-5, 6-4).
In singles play, Davenport showed resilience across the board. Stolin again went three sets after winning the first set (6-2), but could not complete the deal in the final two sets falling 6-0, 6-3 against George Day. Adrian Constantin also went the distance at No. 2 against Luis Klaus and showed resiliency after dropping the first set 6-0. He won the second set 6-4 and stretched Klaus to 7-5 in the third set. Bennet Dozeman at No. 6 also battled to the end against Harry Forsyth by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
Davenport now sits at 8-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
