PREVIEW: Panthers Look for Second Straight Home Victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After winning its home opener last Saturday (Feb. 28) against Wheeling, the Davenport University men's lacrosse team is back in action for another home contest. The Panthers (2-2, 1-0 G-MAC) host Point Park on Saturday (March 7) at the DU Turf Field in Grand Rapids, Mich., at 1 p.m.

The Panthers have earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week nods three times this season. First, in week one, Sean House was named Defensive Player of the Week after accumulating an impressive 27 saves against No. 4 Maryville. The following week, Jayden Ashley was named Offensive Player of the Week following a 10-point (seven goals and three assists) performance to lead DU past Madonna.

Most recently, Charlie Fritz earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after helping guide the squad to a 17-7 win over Wheeling last Saturday. He had a team-high and a career-high seven points, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. In addition, Fritz added four ground balls and caused turnover in the win as DU won their GMAC opener.

On the season, Ashley leads the offense with 16 points, 12 goals and four assists. In three games, House has spent every minute in the net, accumulating 52 saves.

About the Pioneers
  • It is the inaugural season for the Point Park men's lax squad. They picked up their first win in program history last Friday (Feb. 20) against Malone with an 11-9 win in the G-MAC opener.
  • Freshman Kaden Brown leads the conference in caused turnovers per game with 3.33 per contest.
  • Grant Huber paces the Pioneers offense with 2.67 goals per game, which leads the team and ranks inside the top-10 in the G-MAC.
  • Picked to finish 10th in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
