GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team is looking for their third consecutive tournament title while Concordia enters the championship game for the secons straight season still in hopes of their first ever.  Tonight's matchup is a battle of the No. 4 and No. 6 ranked teams in NAIA DII women's basketball.

How they got here

Davenport defeated Indiana Tech 70-50 in the quarterfinals and then defeated #RV Siena Heights 75-47 to advance to the finals. Concordia defeated Aquinas 69-66 in the quar-ters and then Madonna in the WHAC semifinals 89-71. The two teams split the season series with each team winning at home. In the first match-up Daven-port defended home-court for a 86-78 victory in the upset. Concordia returned the upset by knocking off the then number one ranked Panthers 81-78 in over-time in Ann Arbor.

Closer look at Davenport

Abbey Hengesbach has led the Panthers in the two tournament wins averaging 18 points and six rebounds. Hengesbach scored 21 points going 9-9 from the floor with six rebounds and four steals in her tournament debut. Abby Neff has also averaged in double-digits with 10 points in each game. Against Siena Heights, Neff had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and four steals.

Closer look at Concordia

Concordia has made school history this year with their first ever WHAC regular season championship and a school record 28 wins coming into tonight's contest.  It is the secoind straight year the Cardinals have made the championship game as DU defeated CUAA last season. Hannah Sabol has averaged 16.5 points and 8 rebounds per game in the WHAC Tournament. Concordia had five players in double-digits in their semifinal win.

What's at stake?

With the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference having 10 teams in 2011-12, the regular season champion (Davenport) as well as the tournament champion (TBD) will get an automatic bid to the NAIA DII national tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. If that team is the same team (which it could be if Davenport wins), the tournament runner-up will receive the second. So no matter the outcome tonight, both of these teams will be representing the WHAC in Sioux City, Iowa from March 7-13.

All-Time series

DU leads the all-time series 19-1 and won the first 19 games in the series before Concordia posted an 81-78 OT win in February. This will be the fourth meeting all-time in the WHAC Tounament between the two schools as DU owns a 3-0 edge in those games.
