GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As the calendar turns over to the month of February, college basketball teams enter the final stretch of their regular-season schedules. With five games remaining in its 2012-13 regular-season schedule, the ninth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team will look to stay in the hunt for a seventh-straight Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference championship Saturday when it travels to Livonia to take on Madonna at 1 p.m.

The Panthers (23-1, 16-1 WHAC) has been extremely busy this week. After edging Siena Heights on the road Monday, the Panthers had Tuesday to practice but had to go back into competition Wednesday against Lawrence Tech at the Student Center. The Panthers pulled two victories during the week to maintain a share of first place in the WHAC standings with No. 7 Concordia.

Madonna (15-8, 11-6 WHAC) saw its four-game win streak snapped Thursday when Cornerstone put together a late rally to beat the Crusaders 66-60. Rachel Melcher manufactured 21 points while Kristie Porada brought down nine rebounds and tallied three assists to lead the Crusaders. Kaylee McGrath, who averages 16.5 points per game this season, produced only nine points against the Golden Eagles. She also paces the Crusaders in the rebounding department, averaging 6.9.

In their last meeting against Madonna, Karli Harris scored 19 points, Tiesha Stokes added 18 and Emily Nielsen contributed 12 as Davenport used a 19-0 run to start the game to help roll past Crusaders 81-54 at the Student Center on Dec. 15. Seven was also the number for Harris and Stokes. It was the number of assists Harris recorded and the number of rebounds Stokes collected. Gross led the effort on the glass with eight and Stokes paced the Panthers in steals with six, matching her season best. Davenport won the opening tip and ignited a run that became the difference in the game. Harris scored eight points, Stokes added seven and Kendra Cook and Nielsen each put in a pair of points to help Davenport start the game with a 19-0 run in the first 4:28 minutes of play.
