GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior Linnea Brandholm hit a career-mark six 3-point baskets for 18 points, seniors Alison Bouman had 12 points and Alex Merz added a career-high nine on Senior Night as the second-ranked Davenport women's basketball team never looked back in a 92-65 victory over UM-Dearborn Wednesday evening. The Panthers, who have won 22 straight overall, set a new school record by having won 34 straight on their home floor.
With one game remaining on the regular-season, the Panthers (27-1, 20-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) will host second-place and 15th-ranked Siena Heights at 1 p.m.
While she had a dozen points on the evening, Bouman was one rebound short from completing a double-double. Along with her new mark in points, Merz also added six assists to lead the Panthers in that category.
Davenport combined to shoot 48.6 percent around the perimeter. Although the Panthers defense held the Wolverines (3-24, 2-19 WHAC) to a 39.4 shooting percentage, they could not stop the team's leading scorer Jalissa Williams, who led the game with 27 points and 14 rebounds.
Tiesha Stokes got the game started with a layup and UM-Dearborn's Kielee McNally followed with one of her free throw attempts. The Panthers would start to run away with the lead thanks to a 14-0 run. Brandholm hit a trio of 3-point baskets, Stokes added three points and Alex Merz added a layup during the run.
After Davenport established a 40-17 lead with 7:35 left, the Wolverines built their biggest rhythm in the opening half, establishing an 8-2 run in the span of five minutes.
The Panthers went into the break leading 48-26. Brandholm's led the half with nine points, all from the 3-point line during the 14-0 run. The Panthers combined to shoot 47.4 percent from the field while holding the Wolverines to 30.3.
Brandholm would ignite another run for the Panthers again at the start of the second half, making three 3-pointers during a 17-0 momentum.
