GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Tiesha Stokes scored 22 points, Alison Bouman added 20 along with 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year as the second-ranked and top seed Davenport women's basketball team led from start to finish to defeat eighth-seed Madonna 80-64 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament opener Thursday evening. The Panthers will host fourth seed Indiana Tech in the semifinal Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Warriors advanced after beating Aquinas 88-75.
Davenport (29-1) combined for 39.2 percent (29-for-74) from the field and 22.6 percent from 3-point range. Despite the struggles from the perimeter, the Panthers made it up on the free throw line, going 15-for-19 with Stokes going perfect in her five opportunities.
Madonna likely saw its season come to an end with a 12-18 record. Like Bouman, leading scorer Rachel Melcher also had a double-double day with 18 points and 11 boards.
The Panthers quickly jumped to a 6-0 lead with baskets by Brittany Johnson, Stokes and Alex Law. The Crusaders bounced back and brought the score within three (10-7) with 15:38 left in the opening period until the Panthers went on a 34-6 run in 11:18 to take control of the contest. Davenport caused nine turnovers during the run while Stokes added seven points while Bouman and Johnson added six.
DU went into the locker room leading 49-25, shooting 43.9 percent (18-for-41) from the floor while holding Madonna to 25 percent (9-for-36).
Davenport led by as many as 20 throughout the second half but a 16-3 run by the Crusaders within the final seven minutes of the game brought the deficit down to 16. Madonna improved its shooting percentage to 48.4 (15-for-31) while limiting the Panthers to 33.3 (11-for-33).

Davenport improves to 21-6 all-time against Madonna…The Panthers also improve to 23-6 in WHAC Tournament play while going 38-15 including the national tournament…Tiesha Stokes has broken the 20-point barrier for the seventh time this season
