#5 Ashland 91, Davenport 43 (Nov. 15)
The women’s basketball team started a three-game road stretch on Friday night with a 91-43 loss at No. 5 Ashland. The Eagles, who are perennial national championship contenders, won for the fourth straight game and were on fire from the floor going 38-of-62 (61.3 percent). In addition, they hit from deep at a 52.9 percent clip going 9-of-17.
Zoe Miller led all scorers for Ashland with 18 points (8-of-11 FG) and also had four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Sarah McKee came off the bench to score 17 points in 20-plus minutes. She shot 7-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the arc.
Ashland had a major edge in points off turnovers 29-2 and points in the paint 54-26. The Panthers came out playing even basketball in the first quarter and led 10-8 at the 5:28 mark after a basket by Nevaeh Williams. Deyonce Thompson saw her first action of the season and connected on a triple to give DU a 13-12 lead at the 3:50 mark. The Eagles would end the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 22-14 and never turn back.
The second quarter was when the game grew into a large lead for the Eagles as they outscored the Panthers 28-6. DU shot 30 percent in the second quarter after going 6-of-10 in the first quarter. For the game, Lillee Gustafson led the Panthers with eight points. Jaci Walker chipped in seven points and had two assists. Ellie Toney in her first game this season scored seven points in 20-plus minutes off the bench. She also led the team with five rebounds.
Tiffin 64, Davenport 55 (Nov. 17)
The Davenport women’s basketball team could not hold on in the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon in a 64-55 defeat at Tiffin. They managed to take a 42-40 lead heading into the final quarter and the Dragons scored the first six points and did not give up the lead the rest of the way. Tiffin shot 13-of-14 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory. Davenport did shoot 50 percent from the floor in the final 10 minutes but just had two free throw attempts and missed them both.
Lillee Gustafson had a season-high 14 rebounds including nine offensive boards. She finished with six points, four assists, and three blocked shots. Isabel Lindo led the team with 12 points and also had two steals. Jada McCree came off the bench to go 3-for-3 behind the arc in nine-plus minutes. Ellie Toney added eight points off the bench in 25-plus minutes. The Panthers finished the game going 18-for-59 (30.5 percent) from the floor including 8-for-28 behind the arc. Bree Allen led the Dragons with 18 points off the bench going 5-for-10 from the field and 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
