Grand Valley State 78, Davenport 38 - (Feb. 3)
The Davenport women’s basketball team dropped a 78-38 decision on Saturday afternoon versus No. 4 Grand Valley State in GLIAC action. This game started the second round of league play as the Panthers play each team in the conference both home and away for a total of 18 GLIAC games. The Lakers swept the season series from Davenport and never trailed in the contest. GVSU led 20-11 after the first quarter shooting 50 percent (7-of-14) from the floor including 4-of-10 behind the arc. In the second quarter, the Panthers went six minutes without a point and in the process found themselves down 37-17 at halftime.
Davenport shot 35.7 percent (5-of-14) in the third quarter and then was 30.8 percent in the fourth quarter going 4-of-13. The biggest stat line proved to be turnovers. DU committed their third most of the season with 25 and the Lakers coughed it up 14 times. GVSU held a 25-8 edge in points off turnovers for the contest. The Laker bench was also a factor with 46 points compared to 18 by the Panthers.
The Lakers finished 50 percent from the floor for the game going 31-of-62. It was just the fourth time this season that DU has allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent or better. Megan Crow and Rylie Bisballe led the Lakers with 11 points. Isabel Lindo led the Panthers with 12 points, marking the sixth time this season that the freshman led the team in scoring for a game. Lindo shot 5-of-12 from the floor including 2-of-7 behind the arc. Nevaeh Williams had her best overall game of the season finishing with eight points and five rebounds. Both of those totals tied a season high for Williams.
ALEXA KOLNITYS
The sophomore guard had a streak of at least one assist in 12 straight games snapped against the Lakers on Saturday. During that stretch, she had multiple assists in 11 of those games and three or more assists in nine contests. Kolnitys currently leads the team in steals per game (1.7) and assists per game (2.3).
LILLEE GUSTAFSON
The junior center currently ranks first in the GLIAC in offensive rebounds per game with 2.9. She is also third in double-doubles with seven. Gustafson in addition ranks third in free throw attempts (88) and rebounds per game (7.9). She is sitting at 795 career points and 643 career rebounds in 76 games and has started in every game she has played in her career. She ranks eighth all-time in rebounding and is 13 boards away from tying Molly Babbs (2013-17) for seventh place. After scoring in double figures 13 times in the first 16 games of the season, Gustafson has just one double digit output in the last four games. The GVSU defense was formidable on Saturday limiting her to season lows in points (two) and rebounds (one) in 24 minutes.
ISABEL LINDO
The freshman guard led the Panthers with 12 points on Saturday against GVSU. It was the first time in four games that she eclipsed double figures. She has a total of eight games this season in double figures with three of those coming on the road.
