CALEDONIA, Mich. – The warmer weather must have warmed up the bats on Sunday as Davenport had one of their best offensive days of the year in a 10-3 win over Purdue Northwest. The Panthers finished the season series with a 4-2 record against the Pride and improved to 9-22 overall and 5-7 in the GLIAC. Davenport pounded out 17 hits including five doubles and one triple and scored in five different innings while never trailing in the contest.
Davenport jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning as
Josh Robinson had a RBI single and
Anthony Aloisio had a sacrifice fly to left field. Aloisio was back again in the third inning and had a RBI single for a 3-0 lead. DU would score two more runs in the third as
Xander Reisbig had a two-run scoring double down the left field line.
The lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth inning as Aloisio drove in a run in his third straight at-bat with a double down the right field line. Purdue Northwest got two runs in their half of the sixth inning.
Austin VanderMarkt cruised through the first five innings and did not allow a hit until a one-out Aden Johnson double to left center in the sixth. The Pride scored two runs on a fielding error and VanderMarkt exited with six solid innings of no earned runs with five strikeouts to earn the win (3-1).
Logan Todd added to the lead in the home sixth inning on a RBI single and
Connor Hnilo also drove in a run with a double for a 8-2 advantage. PNW scored their third run on an error in the seventh inning meaning that DU pitchers gave up no earned runs on the day.
Jack Snow threw in the seventh inning and struck out one.
Cade Kontny faced five batters in the eighth inning but did not allow a run.
Tyler Kapa mowed down the Pride in the ninth inning and needed just 12 pitches with two strikeouts.
Aloisio drove in his fourth run of the game on a single in the eighth and finished 3-for-3. Robinson also drove in a run in the eighth and finished 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Coltrane Rubner went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once. Hnilo went 2-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI.
Jared Evans went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Panthers have a tough weekend ahead as they will travel to first-place Saginaw Valley State (21-9, 10-3) for a four-game series starting on Friday, April 12 at 4:00 PM.
