GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University cross country competed in the Calvin Knight Invitational on Sept. 28, with the men's team claiming first place and the women's finishing seventh overall.
The men's squad secured its first invitational of the season, as head coach
Scott Cook noted the top seven men's runners finished within seconds of each other - all of them placing in the top 20 of the individual leaderboards.
"I was really pleased with how the men ran today," Cook said. "They really showed off their depth; they proved that on any given day they are able to step up and run a great team race. Our top-seven guys were only separated by 20 seconds. The women continue to progress as they continue to get healthier.
Ella Baryo ran a tremendous race, finishing second overall."
Baryo's second-place finish was her third-straight top-five finish this year, as
Drew Sharrar and
Jordan Domany claimed their first top-10 finishes this season.
