SHEPHERD, Mich. – The Panthers opened the 2025 cross country season in impressive fashion as the men's squad put six runners on the board with standout 5K performances, while the women's team turned in a competitive showing at the 40th Annual Jeff Drenth Memorial 5K on Friday, August 29, hosted by Central Michigan. The Davenport men's team placed third overall with 79 points.

For the men, all six Panthers finished inside the top 36. Leading the charge was 2024 All-GLIAC Second Team honoree junior Jordan Domany, who raced to a personal-record time of 14:56.40 to place sixth overall. He was followed by Tyler Guggemos in 22nd, Rogan Melling in 24th, Luke Oyster in 26th, Nikolas Shilling in 34th, and Matthew Nowak in 36th to close out a dominant effort.

On the women's side, sophomore Alyssa Butterfield led the way with a 72nd-place finish on the Shepherd High School course, clocking 20:41.60. She was followed by Adrianna Soria in 83rd, Cierra Guay in 94th, and Britta Johnson in 124th. Both Soria and Johnson made their debuts for the Panther cross country program in the season opener.

Head Coach Scott Cook was pleased with his team's performance, saying, "It was a great start for our crew. It was good to get them in a competitive environment early in the season and set the tone for the rest of the year."
